Banner County board sets meeting notices, holidays and official papers; clerk to add transit request

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Banner County Board of Commissioners handled routine administrative business. The board designated the Kimbell Western Nebraska Observer and the Star Herald as the county’s official newspapers for 2026 and confirmed public-posting locations (Banner County Post Office, the courthouse and Banner County School), with members asking that the county website also be used for meeting notices.
The clerk read the 2026 county holiday schedule — including federal holidays plus Good Friday and Arbor Day — and the board moved and seconded to approve the schedule as presented.
In public comment, Pauline Schoemaker asked the board to add Kimball County Transit System (CTS) to a future agenda to explore ways local residents could access transit; county staff agreed to schedule the item.
The board also acknowledged a small Lumen refund check ($1,300) and discussed which fund should receive the deposit.
Next steps: staff will update the county website and newspaper notices and place the requested transit discussion on a future agenda.
