Commission thanks longtime volunteer Joyce Bottenberg as she departs

At the start of a packed agenda, staff and commissioners used part of Thursday’s meeting to thank Commissioner Joyce Bottenberg for her years of volunteer service. Bottenberg, a founding member when the human services effort began as a task force in 2018, will step down after multiple grant cycles and extensive community work.
‘‘Joyce, we’re so indebted to you,’’ Rita said, noting Bottenberg’s lengthy service and excellent attendance. Staff credited Bottenberg with helping the commission and earlier task force produce the city’s first health and human services needs assessment and with contributing to grant cycles that brought money into the community — staff cited roughly $2.2 million in total funding outcomes associated with commission efforts since inception.
The commission also noted that City Council voted to appoint Jisha Govan as the new human services commissioner; Govan will be welcomed at the commission’s next meeting. Commissioners offered personal thanks and recollections of working with Bottenberg on senior-program and community-facilities issues.
What’s next: The commission will welcome Commissioner Jisha Govan at the February meeting and continue planning the 2026 grant-review calendar.
