Leitchfield commission declares surplus water-plant equipment, authorizes bids for tractor and dump truck

At its Jan. 15 meeting the Leitchfield Utilities Commission approved declaring four items from the water plant surplus — a tundra trailer, a John Deere water pump, a mechanical trench box, and assorted equipment from the old water plant — and authorized Superintendent Roofs to sell them, preferably via GovDeals. Commissioners discussed that some heavy or obsolete items may otherwise be scrapped.

The commission also authorized staff to advertise for bids on a used road tractor (to haul sludge and pull a dryer) and a medium-sized dump truck. Staff said an estimated $60,000 from a cleaner-water allocation originally planned for another project would have been available, and that a final Conveyors invoice left the utility with roughly $88,036.25 in available funds. "We wound up with, 88,000, $36.25 lehi over," a staff member reported on the record. A motion to advertise for both vehicles was moved by Mr. Farris and seconded by Mr. Blaine; the board indicated 'All in favor.'

Separately, Jim from the water plant said the utility switched testing and metering suppliers and expects to save about $15,000 a year under the new contract. Commissioners recognized the savings and thanked Jim.

Commissioners were provided monthly budget reports for October and November and were told those reports will return for formal approval at the Feb. 1 meeting. With no further business, the commission adjourned.
