ZBA approves 30.5-square-foot sign variance for Meldrum Paint Supply in Depew

The Village of Depew Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance to permit an additional wall-mounted sign for Meldrum Paint Supply that increases the business’s total permitted signage above the village’s 100-square-foot threshold.
Christopher Reed of Meldrum Paint Store said the sign is needed "for clarity and advertisement of products," and staff explained that two previously permitted signs kept the business under the 100-square-foot cap; the proposed third sign would exceed the cumulative allowance by 30.5 square feet. A staff correction at the hearing adjusted the requested relief from an initial 35 square feet down to 30.5 square feet.
After the chair read the state variance criteria and the board discussed the matter, Member Overholtz moved to grant the variance and Member Galvin seconded. Roll-call votes recorded members as voting yes and the board approved the request.
The approval allows the business to proceed with permitting for the new sign; the board’s action applies only to the local zoning allowance and does not address any sign permitting or building-permit steps required by the village building department or other regulations.
