Chiefs also reported that one older pumper (unit O5) suffered a major mechanical failure on I‑75 and was effectively disabled; initial repair estimates discussed in the meeting began at about $50,000. Staff said O5 was already scheduled for surplus once the new apparatus arrive, so the court agreed to prepare surplus paperwork for consideration at the next meeting rather than invest in repairs now.
The court approved the inspection travel and related authorizations by voice vote. Magistrates praised interagency assistance (a loaner unit from Lexington) and discussed logistics for receiving and equipping the new ladder and pumper apparatus.
