Avon council elects officers, updates board appointments and suspends rules to add levy rebuttal resolution

Avon — The Avon Town Council reorganized some leadership and cleared several council appointments during its Jan. 8 meeting, while also amending the agenda to consider a rebuttal to the state denial of the town’s growth levy appeal.

Elections and appointments: Council members nominated and elected Don Loudon as council president in a roll‑call vote (3–2) and elected Jason Puckett as vice president in a separate roll call. Council took a series of appointments for boards and commissions, including nominations to the redevelopment commission, planning commission, parks advisory council and fire appeals board; specific appointments approved during the meeting included Bob Culler and Dave Kaufman to the redevelopment authority and J. Cole Ritter to the fire appeals board.

Agenda amendment and procedural actions: Council voted to suspend the rules and add Resolution 2026‑03 to the agenda (the item was later discussed and adopted), indicating the body’s intent to act promptly on the DLGF levy denial. The consent agenda (check register and minutes) was adopted earlier in the meeting by unanimous roll call.

Why it matters: Officer elections set leadership for 2026 and board appointments affect oversight of planning, parks and redevelopment at a time when the town is pursuing large redevelopment and budget actions.
