The Thornton City Council on Jan. 13 approved a resolution renewing an intergovernmental agreement with Front Range Community College’s North Metro Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to continue on-site services at the Alliance Business Assistance Center.
Small Business Manager Jenny Leon said the SBDC provides eight hours per week of on-site business counseling, one workshop per quarter, regular participation in partner meetings and one annual scholarship to the Leading Edge nine‑week business-planning program. Leon cited the Tree of Life childcare in Thornton as an example of a business that increased web traffic fivefold after using SBDC services.
Council member Russell introduced the resolution and asked for its approval; the motion passed unanimously. Leon and council members said the partnership has been successful since the original IGA in 2020 and recommended renewal to sustain counseling and education resources for local entrepreneurs.
Next steps: The SBDC will continue weekly on-site counseling and quarterly workshops under the renewed IGA.
