Board approves personnel items, confirms election candidates and votes to convene in closed session
Summary

During a brief special session at the start of the Jan. 12 meeting the board approved employment of staff "as presented" after a motion read by Lynn and recorded the motion as carried with all board members voting in favor. Lynn later moved to approve the presented resignations; the motion carried with one abstention recorded by Minnow. The meeting record lists individual votes: "Meister, yes; Canell, yes; Minnow, abstained; Gerlach, yes; Liarly, yes; McCoy, yes; Becker, yes."
In operations business the clerk reported four candidates filed by the Jan. 6 deadline for the April school board election: Eric Riemer (position 1), Samantha Meister (2), Laura McCoy (3) and Mary Lou Yang (4). Because three seats are available and there are four candidates, the clerk said no primary is required in February. The clerk also reminded board members of financial-filing requirements and offered office assistance for candidate questions.
Staff presented the state-required open-enrollment space designation for 2026-27 and said the district is reporting zero open spaces in all areas except vision; presenters said that designation matches surrounding districts.
Lynn then moved that the board convene into closed session citing Wisconsin statute 19.85 (1)(a) and (f) for personnel-related matters and Wisconsin statute 120.13 (1)(c) and (e) to hold expulsion hearings. After a second, the board took a roll-call vote with members recorded as "Aye," and the board convened into closed session.
