City manager: MLK Day closures, Northwood Estates preconstruction cleared and traffic signal grant sought

She also announced a joint workshop with the planning commission scheduled for Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss residential district presentations.
Whitman reported that a preconstruction meeting for the Northwood Estates development addressed prior drainage-report questions and that engineers were satisfied; staff signed the plans and authorized the project to proceed. On the topic of a new traffic signal related to the development, Whitman said the city is still exploring grant funding and described the signal as a roughly $1,000,000 endeavor; she noted the developer will contribute some funds but that external grants are being pursued because the city’s initial safety-grant application was not funded due to insufficient accident history at the site.
Whitman also addressed electric-aggregation questions from residents: the city’s aggregation contract with Constellation is at a fixed rate of 9.049¢ and AES had a rate of 9.045¢; she cautioned residents to check contract terms (length, cancellation fees) when comparing offers and noted the AES rate is scheduled to end on 05/31/2026.
