The San Marino Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on Jan. 13 to approve two Measure M contract items intended to advance district modernization work.
Item 11a authorized a lump‑sum agreement with Adkins Engineers for additional field topography and surveying at San Marino High School to evaluate relocating the career center to the library; the contract amount is $4,265 and will be funded from Measure M. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steven Choi presented the item and recommended board approval. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a unanimous roll call (Mister Chang: Aye; Mister Sung: Aye; Miss Lam: Aye; Missus Ryan: Aye; Missus Gill: Aye; Student Board Member Burke: Aye).
Item 11b authorized an agreement with Rackman Partners, doing business as Huckabee, for architectural and engineering services to fully replace the existing heating systems and install new high‑efficiency HVAC systems for both gymnasiums at San Marino High School. Dr. Choi said the estimated construction cost is $2,500,000 with a proposed architectural and engineering fee of $277,500; the project will be funded with Measure M dollars. The board moved, seconded and approved the item by unanimous roll call (same vote pattern).
Both approvals followed brief presentation by staff; trustees offered positive remarks about community excitement for the work and no amendments or conditions were added. With the motions carried, staff may proceed with the surveying work and continue design steps for the gym HVAC replacement as outlined under Measure M.
