Redevelopment director reports developer interest in housing, DNR survey and NDOT feedback on medians

Greg Goodnight, director of redevelopment for the city of Lawrence, briefed the commission on recent activity and pending items.
He thanked the commission for passage of Resolution 1-20-26 and said he and Councilor Brown had a Zoom call with a developer exploring a substantial single-family housing project in Lawrence; the developer still had outstanding items to work out but hoped to bring a proposal within one to two months. Goodnight said multiple housing developers are showing interest in multifamily projects, including both affordable and market-rate housing. He reported a survey had begun on a DNR property and that he expected a report back by the next meeting.
On Pendleton Pike medians, Goodnight said staff have exchanged emails with NDOT but NDOT had not yet approved the plan; staff received one substantive technical comment requesting an adjustment to the curve of tree planters. Goodnight characterized much of his work as preventing unsuitable development, saying, “I do spend quite a bit of time trying to make sure we don't get the wrong type of development that brings devalues the property surrounding it.” Commissioners asked whether movement could occur by spring or summer; Goodnight said he hopes to have materials ready to bring to the commission within a month or two and to get plantings in the spring but provided no guarantee.
