Library proposes expanded Saturday hours; county awarded $9,888 Ready to Read grant

Kim, representing the county library, told commissioners the trial change to hours that began last September has been well received and that the library installed doorbells and additional security cameras to support expanded self-service hours. "The 8 to 9 self-service hours, I have gotten a lot of positive feedback," Kim said.
Kim proposed keeping early self-service hours and changing Saturday operations to allow self-service from 8 to 10 a.m. and staffed service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Commissioners asked how the change would affect staffing and whether it risked staff burnout; Kim said policy requires two staff present in the building at all times and that staffing levels can support the change. Commissioner 7 advised that if there is no objection, no formal motion is necessary; commissioners expressed support by consensus.
Kim also reported the library was awarded a 2026 Ready to Read grant from the State Library of Oregon for $9,888 (preliminary expectation had been $10,300). Speaker 3 moved to accept the grant, but Speaker 1 noted the consent agenda would handle formal acceptance at a subsequent meeting; staff confirmed the funds are available for use from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31 under the program rules.
