Summary
The Beer Board reviewed carryout-beer applications from BJ’s Wholesale Club at Northgate Mall Drive and Concord Hospitality (a Hilton Tapestry property) at 736 Broad Street; both applicants said they have operations planned, but final Beer Board approval hinges on building-inspection sign-off or certificate-of-occupancy confirmation.
Board staff read applications for two carryout-beer permits and explained both remain pending final building or occupancy confirmation.
David Shaw, representing BJ’s Wholesale Club, described the store and how the register prompts staff to check IDs: “So anybody buying alcohol, the register will prompt them that you must check ID… Every prompt comes on any alcohol that’s sold,” he said. BJ’s applied for a carryout-beer permit at 401 Northgate Mall Drive (beer number 254). Building staff told the board they have been advised a certificate of occupancy is in place but that the building department must formally push approval in the system before regulatory can complete the permit; staff said the regulatory unit will automatically approve the permit once building pushes the sign-off.
Concord Hospitality Enterprise Company LLC applied to sell carryout beer at 736 Broad Street on behalf of Chattanooga Hotel Crocco LLC. Kelly Helton, speaking for the project, said the property is being operated as a Hilton Tapestry Collection hotel with 148 guest rooms, a rooftop bar and a speakeasy in a former bank vault. Helton said multiple internal outlets will sell beer under the same LLC and noted the building-inspection department has not yet completed its final sign-off.
Board staff told applicants they need not return to the board if building inspection completes and the certificate-of-occupancy or final building approval is recorded in the regulatory system; regulatory will then finalize the permits automatically.
