The Buchanan County School Board handled a range of routine administrative and personnel items at its Jan. 14 meeting, approving payables, accepting resignations, and approving staffing and substitute lists.
The board approved the payables after one member noted an exception related to Southern Gap. Administration presented three resignations for acceptance; the transcript clearly identifies McKenzie Justice among the resignations. Other resignations were presented but the meeting transcript did not include unambiguous, consistently spelled names for all three; the board accepted the resignations by vote.
The board approved coaching assignments for Council High and Grundy High, the substitute and volunteer lists submitted by administration, and a revised substitute pay scale (an increase of a few dollars as presented in the packet). The administration also reported enrollment at 2,174 students and gave counts for homeschooling (~87) and virtual students (~62). Early dismissal requests for Grundy High and Riverview to accommodate regional wrestling and basketball events on Feb. 26 were approved.
The personnel committee recommended Dennis Blankenship for the diesel teacher position at the Buchanan County Technology Center; the board approved that recommendation. The board also approved a mileage reimbursement rate of 72.5 cents per mile for the upcoming year (an increase of 2.5 cents from 2025).
These votes were carried by voice or roll-call as noted in the meeting record; administration will follow up on routine implementation steps such as posting personnel actions and processing payroll/benefits as required.
