The City of Las Vegas Art Commission on Jan. 15 approved three administrative actions: the body approved the minutes of Nov. 20, 2025; voted to acquire "Enriched Heritage" by Adolfo Gonzalez for up to $35,000 from the percent-for-the-arts fund (Ward 5); and accepted four donated two-dimensional works by Linda Alterwitz into the city’s permanent art collection with no fiscal impact.
Laura Machado, cultural affairs staff, recapped that "Enriched Heritage" was installed in January 2024 as part of a contemporary public art loan, that the loan period was extended once and now expires, and that staff conducted a December condition report. She said minor rust issues were addressed by the artist and that the sculpture’s foundation and anchorage were designed by a Nevada-licensed engineer and "the anchorage is rated to last more than 10 years." Machado also told commissioners that ongoing care will be minimal — "cleaning with soap and water followed by drying with a cloth" — and that staff recommends acquiring the piece into the city's collection.
Commissioner Galati moved to purchase the sculpture; Commissioner Chirke seconded. The commission voted by voice and the motion carried (voice vote: three "Aye" responses recorded). The purchase authorization was stated as not to exceed $35,000 of the percent-for-the-arts fund (Ward 5).
On the donation, Machado said city staff located four pieces on expired loan and the artist Linda Alterwitz offered to donate them. There was no fiscal impact, staff said, and the works are two-dimensional and in good condition. Commissioner Chia moved to accept the donation; Commissioner Portnoy seconded, and the motion passed by voice vote (three "Aye" responses recorded).
The commission previously approved the Nov. 20, 2025 minutes after a motion by Commissioner Klevin and a second from Commissioner Centurk; that voice vote was recorded as two "Aye" responses and the motion passed.
No appeals or challenges to these administrative actions were recorded. Staff noted that ongoing inventory and annual condition assessments will continue and that the artist will be contacted to address any future issues. The meeting then moved on to future agenda items and adjourned.
