Anchorage election commission approves review schedule, elects officers and sets Canvas timing

The Anchorage Municipality Election Commission moved to review a revised commission manual next meeting and completed routine officer elections and calendar scheduling.

Commissioner Ralph Kumier moved that the commission review the revised commission guide at the next meeting in February; Lauren Lehman seconded and the commission carried the motion by unanimous consent (SEG 788-798). "I would like to make a motion that we review the revised commission guide, at the next meeting, being in February," Kumier said.

On officer elections, staff noted the municipal code requires annually electing a chair and vice chair. After nominations from the floor, the commission was told "Katie is elected as chair for another year" (SEG 835) and later that "Mister Lehman is again elected as vice chair" (SEG 865-866). The transcript does not record a roll-call vote; both outcomes were announced by staff during the meeting.

The commission reviewed the election calendar, noting the commission meeting must be on or before the third Friday after election day to allow for a risk-limiting audit and certification schedule. Staff proposed holding the commission meeting on April 23 to provide time for a Friday risk-limiting audit and Tuesday certification; commissioners raised no objections to the date and discussed an approximate evening start time and logistics (SEG 874-935).

Staff also reported editorial and citation corrections to the commission manual, including multiple Anchorage Municipal Code citations that were updated in the staff draft. The commission asked staff to bring the revised manual back in February for formal review and adoption.
