Veterans transportation grant: conservation/planning staff described a newly eligible funding source from the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) that will supplement the county’s 85.21 transportation program. Marathon County was awarded just under $3,500 to provide rides for veterans to the VA clinic in Rothschild; the committee approved a motion to amend the 2026 budget and accept the grant.
Public-safety grants: the sheriff’s office provided memos on a JAG Drug Task Force grant (awarded) and a law-enforcement drug-trafficking grant for which Marathon County applied. Staff confirmed the trafficking grant application amount was $22,990 and the committee voted to approve the JAG grant and forward the trafficking grant to the full county board contingent on award.
Operational details: North Central Healthcare and transportation partners will continue to provide rides, using a mix of paid drivers and volunteers; staff said the grant will help cover reduced or free rides for veterans and that additional data collection is planned to identify broader veteran transportation needs.
Next steps: staff will process required budget amendments and return any contingent award confirmations to the committee and board as needed.
