The Edgecombe County Commission approved several routine administrative items and scheduled upcoming public hearings during its meeting.
On financial and administrative matters, commissioners adopted the IRS mileage reimbursement rate change (from $0.70 to $0.725 per mile) and approved the health‑department fee schedule after staff presented the recommendations. Planning staff asked the board to call a public hearing for recommended zoning text amendments and to set a rezoning public hearing; both hearings were scheduled for Feb. 2. The board also appointed Mr. Woodley to the Bradford Library Board after a brief procedural re‑vote to confirm the appointment.
Commissioners received departmental reports and a manager's update that described workforce development programs, a new animal shelter with a tentative ribbon‑cutting set for Jan. 23, and other administrative business. The finance director summarized revenue collections (property‑tax collections were cited at about 47% to date and sales tax performance noted with a lagged 26.4% measure) and reported that the water/sewer proprietary fund was meeting expenses while solid‑waste expenses currently outpaced revenues.
Before adjourning to a closed session on economic development, commissioners reiterated that decisions on specific projects — including the data‑center proposal discussed extensively during public comment — would await further technical and environmental information.
