Zoning bylaw review on hold pending General Code's edits; board approves Dec. 9 minutes

At its Jan. 13 meeting, the Town of Millis Planning Board heard an update from the zoning bylaw review committee and agreed to delay any public hearing on proposed changes until the town’s contract codifier, General Code, provides its edited version.
Nicole, a member of the zoning bylaw review committee, said the committee has been meeting monthly and expected to finish review of Section 7, on signs, soon. She said the contract with General Code is about to be signed and recommended holding off on scheduling a public hearing because General Code will supply an edited, searchable version of the code the committee should compare with its proposed changes.
"If you schedule the public hearing for a spring town meeting, I'm gonna need to know, like, everything as it exists and as proposed to change," a Planning Board member said, and staff noted that while a PDF of the current code is posted online, it is difficult to navigate. General Code’s services were described as a way to improve statutory compliance, searchability and formatting.
The board approved the minutes from Dec. 9, 2025 by voice vote and had no bills to pay. The meeting closed after the chair moved to adjourn and members agreed by voice vote.
The zoning bylaw review committee will continue internal review and will compare its substantive edits to General Code's codified output when available before scheduling public hearings.
