Council President Melissa Stewart moved to advance the candidates known as CK, Saina Parsi and Antoinette Smith to a next-stage interview on Jan. 20; the motion was seconded and carried by a voice vote of 6-0. “I am deeply, deeply humbled by the time and the thoughtfulness of all of the conversations that we were able to have tonight,” Stewart said during discussion before the vote.
The council opened the special meeting to conduct structured, 15-minute interviews with each candidate, with five-minute transitions between interviews and a 10-minute break scheduled at 8 p.m. Each applicant answered a standard set of six questions about priorities,…
