Mayor introduced Jeremy Metz, who took command of West Metro Fire Rescue last August, and invited the chief to speak briefly. Metz said he has served in Colorado fire and emergency services for about 34 years and emphasized West Metro's role as an "all hazards" agency that provides firefighting, emergency medical services and special-operations response across about 110 square miles and 17 stations. Metz told council he looks forward to continuing the department’s partnership with Lakewood on wildfire mitigation and life-safety work.
Councilor Roger Lowe read a proclamation declaring Jan. 21, 2026 "Lakewood 121 Day," celebrating State Highway 121 (Wadsworth Boulevard) and the corridor’s businesses and parks. Representatives from local business and community organizations thanked the council and invited elected officials to participate in the celebration.
Metz: "We serve over a 110 square miles. We have 17 fire stations... Lakewood is our largest city that we serve in our fire district." Lowe: proclamation text noted Wadsworth’s historical and commercial significance and formally designated 01/21/2026 as Lakewood 121 Day.
The items were ceremonial; no formal policy votes were taken on these presentations beyond the routine acceptance of proclamations and welcoming remarks.
