Committee refers student activity trips and planetarium licensing agreement to legislative review
Summary

At the end of the Jan. 7 education committee meeting, district staff presented routine action items and the committee agreed to forward them to the board’s legislative section for approval.
The three student activities up for authorization were the District 11 Orchestra Festival, PMEA District 11 Honors Band, and a spring baseball travel trip to Aberdeen, Maryland (the Ripken Experience). The board’s policy requires the board to approve overnight or out-of-district trips; administrators said those items will come to the legislative section as customary.
Separately, staff presented a three-year licensing agreement for a Sandy Run Planetarium program referred to in the presentation as "Life of Trees," which is included in the teaching-and-learning budget. Administrators said the license will support planetarium programming and that more details will be provided to the legislative section.
Committee members indicated no additional questions in committee and the items were advanced to legislative review; the committee did not record a formal vote in the education committee meeting minutes.
