The Washoe County Community Advisory Board heard multiple public comments and member requests focused on local representation, elections outreach and development impacts.
Tammy Holdstill urged residents to attend the county commission meeting and speak in support of Jeanne Herman for a chair role, saying District 5 has lacked representation for 12 years and asking volunteers to speak for three minutes at the commission meeting. Several speakers also introduced themselves as candidates: Brian Waisler identified himself as a member of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and said he is running for Washoe County Commission District 5; Rob Pierce later announced his own candidacy for the same seat and emphasized smart‑growth priorities, road and drainage improvements.
CAB member Susan Vanness asked the Registrar of Voters (ROV) to present to the group about mailed postcards and the ballot mailing process; she encouraged residents to keep and photograph mailed postcards so the CAB can discuss concerns ahead of the upcoming election. Vanness said CAB members have been engaged with election questions since 2020 and requested clearer ROV communication.
Veronica Cortez, a Sun Valley CAB member, described a November planning commission hearing where developers proposed converting a three‑acre manufactured‑home area to a higher‑density option (10–14 units), and she and other CAB attendees criticized traffic modeling and urged infrastructure improvements before approving new development. Cortez said planning commission votes split 4–3 and that CAB and residents raised concerns about inadequate traffic studies and lack of sidewalks and lighting.
Procedural items: the board approved the minutes from the Dec. 8, 2025 meeting earlier in the session, and a motion to adjourn was made at the meeting’s close.
