House Select Committee on Legislative Ethics subcommittee moves into executive session and adjourns

Chair Connor Thomas called the House Subcommittee of the Select Committee on Legislative Ethics to order Thursday and asked for approval of the meeting agenda; the panel approved the agenda and heard no public comment.
“I would entertain a motion to move into executive session, to discuss matters which by law must remain confidential under Alaska statute 24 61 6 0,” Chair Connor Thomas said before Representative McCabe moved to go into executive session. Committee staff cited Uniform Rule 22(b) and rules of procedure section 5 as additional procedural authority for the closed session.
The Anchorage Legislative Information Office reported audio difficulties early in the meeting and the subcommittee arranged a temporary telephonic fix from a number published on the agenda so Anchorage participants could hear the gavel and continue participation. The chair took the meeting at ease while staff prepared the executive session.
The chair announced the subcommittee had just come out of executive session at 2:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time, said there was nothing further on the public agenda and entertained a motion to adjourn; the meeting was adjourned without further public action. The full committee is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m.
Because the matter discussed in executive session was designated confidential under the statutory and rule citations invoked on the record, the subcommittee did not disclose the substance of the closed-session discussion in the public record.
