Superintendents’ SEAM report given; DESE monitoring found documentation issue on restraint

The district provided the School Committee with the 2024–25 SEAM Collaborative annual report on Jan. 13. As a partner district, Wakefield participates in SEAM Collaborative programming that serves students with low-incidence, complex educational and behavioral needs alongside 10 other districts.
The report noted approximately 300 students attend SEAM Collaborative programs across partner districts; Wakefield currently has about 4–5 students receiving services through SEAM. The committee received the informational report and had no action to take on it at the meeting.
Administration also reported results from DESE's tiered focus monitoring of Wakefield's special-education program. The presentation said there was a single finding related to documentation of restraint; administration emphasized that physical restraint is a last-resort intervention reserved for life-safety situations and that more information will be shared at the Jan. 26 meeting when staff provide follow-up details to the committee.
