Dr. Steinhauser explained that policy JFABE (McKinney‑Vento dispute resolution) and an accompanying dispute‑resolution form were brought forward by the district’s Title/federal programs director as requirements tied to Title funding; these items were introduced and will appear for first reading at the next meeting.
The board also reviewed a proposed revision to policy GCDB on criminal background checks. Dr. Steinhauser said the district had run into a problem where the existing policy required a background check for volunteers after two visits, which could discourage recurring volunteers such as Junior Achievement presenters and readers. After consulting legal counsel and referencing changes prompted by a CJIS audit, administrators proposed a less restrictive approach to avoid losing volunteers while remaining compliant.
The calendar committee’s Nov. 19 meeting was summarized; committee membership was listed and the draft favors holding school on the Wednesday of the state fair with an early release to balance semester days and to provide extra kindergarten orientation time. The draft calendar will be available for review and return to the board for formal first reading next month.
None of these items were finalized at the Dec. 9 meeting; several were presented only as introductions to allow public and board review before formal readings.
