Board approves courthouse camera and door-access upgrade, $105,894.22 from courthouse renovation and general fund

The Board approved a request on Jan. 21 to authorize a purchase order and contract with Building Automation Services LLC for courthouse physical security upgrades totaling $105,894.22. Marcel Miranda, the county's IT director, presented the item as the first phase of a countywide refresh of cameras and door-access control.

Miranda told commissioners the county solicited proposals under RFP 25-283 and received five proposals; Building Automation Services was selected using a scoring matrix included in the agenda packet. He said the funding will come from $91,612.67 in existing courthouse renovation project funds and the remainder ($14,281.55) from the general fund.

"This is the first phase of a larger county wide refresh on our physical security which includes cameras and door access control," Miranda said. He confirmed the system will provide movable cameras and door-access pads, though wiring and fixed controller infrastructure would remain in place when devices are relocated.

Project details and warranties Miranda said the purchase covers approximately 32 cameras (exterior and interior), a 10-year manufacturer warranty and three years of required subscription/service. The system will be managed by the Sheriff's Office and court security personnel.

Board action A motion to approve the purchase order and contract passed by voice vote. Commissioners asked staff to confirm whether court deputies are equipped with body cameras; staff said they would verify that with the Sheriff. The procurement award proceeds to contract execution; staff will provide related project tracking to the board.

Ending Staff will finalize contracting and report back through the regular project updates; the item moves forward as an approved purchase order and first-phase implementation of countywide physical-security improvements.
