Cedar Falls staff presented the plans and estimate for the 2025 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project during the Jan. 21 meeting; the council adopted the plans and estimate by roll call.
Public-works presentation: Tyler Griffin said the project consists of installing cured-in-place liner in approximately 5,400 feet of existing sanitary sewer mains, followed by the reinstallation of 58 service connections. The sewers were selected based on pipe condition and age. Griffin said the estimated project cost is $274,000 and that the work is funded by sewer rental funds.
Why it matters: the annual rehabilitation program maintains sewer infrastructure, extends pipe life and reduces I&I (inflow and infiltration) problems that can lead to backups or higher treatment costs.
Council action: after no public comment, council passed a resolution approving plans, specifications, form of contract and estimate of cost; the roll call was recorded as all members voting aye.
Ending: staff said the city has used cured-in-place lining as an annual rehabilitation measure for decades; Griffin noted the program has been performed annually since 1993.
