Trustees opened the Jan. 12 meeting by moving athletics recognitions earlier in the agenda and honoring championship teams from across the district.
An athletics director speaking for Los Altos High asked student athletes and coaches to come forward as the board recognized multiple squads for their seasons. The Los Altos girls cross‑country team qualified for the state meet for the fifth consecutive year, won a 19‑meet league streak and finished 11th in the Division I state race, a presenter said; Sam Witelles was singled out for a 35th‑place finish at the state meet. Los Altos boys and girls who qualified for state competition were also recognized.
Los Altos girls water polo captains described a season highlight: a rivalry win over Palo Alto High School, a Scoville League co‑championship and a CCS Division I championship; they said the team advanced to the state tournament and lost a close match to Merced by three goals. The girls’ tennis coach and captains celebrated a state championship, which the coach described as a historic achievement for a Northern California team.
Mountain View athletic director Tim Lugo and coach Jonathan Hobbs introduced the Mountain View boys cross‑country team, noting a repeat CCS championship and an 11th‑place all‑divisions finish at the state meet; Hobbs read the varsity roster and highlighted the relative youth of the squad.
Board members and the superintendent thanked athletes, coaches and staff for their contributions to student well‑being and school culture. The recognition concluded with group photos.
