Saline Area Schools board greets 80 new hires as school year begins

"It is critical that I applaud the very important people, which are the building principals and district administrators, for their tireless dedication and commitment this summer to bringing 80 new folks to the district," the staff member said.
She credited four employees in the Department of Human Resources for helping most new staff start by Aug. 20. The speaker provided a breakdown of new positions: 28 new teachers; three speech-language pathologists; six occupational therapists; one teacher consultant; one multi-tier system support staff member; one behavior-certified behavior analyst; 18 paraprofessionals; two custodians; three literacy tutors; three transportation employees; one administrative assistant; one CTE technician; three GSRP staff with a new GSRP leader; two one-to-one nurses; three Young 5 aides; three office staff; and one position the speaker described in the meeting transcript as "superintendent." The speaker said 42 of the new hires attended the district's August orientation and that a make-up or alternative session is likely to be held in October for those who could not attend.
Board members and the superintendent welcomed the new staff at the start of the meeting. Board President McVay said, "We're so glad you're here," and other board members singled out specific groups such as speech therapists and occupational therapists for praise.
