The Guadalupe City Council on Jan. 28 approved the consent calendar, including warrants for vendor payments. Councilmember Villegas pulled warrants for discussion and raised an $8,000 warrant to ITech Solutions.
Villegas said $8,000 is a substantial recurring cost and asked whether the city is considering hiring an on-site IT person. The city administrator responded that staff and HR have discussed creating an in-house IT position, that it would likely make sense cost-wise as the city grows, and that staff would prepare a job description and return to council for approval.
Council members expressed the view that an in-house staffer could provide more timely service and training, and staff confirmed the $8,000 was for outside IT services and support; other one-time costs such as trainings may be additional. The warrant for ITech Solutions and the rest of the consent calendar were approved by council vote.
No formal motion was made to hire a staff IT position at the meeting; staff said follow-up work would be done with HR and a proposal would be brought forward for council consideration.
