Rash underscored the airport’s role in supporting aircraft maintenance, agricultural applications, firefighting, medical flights and disaster response during Hurricane Helene. He listed potential future infrastructure projects tied to the airport layout plan, including perimeter fencing, obstruction mitigation, east‑side development, a runway extension and a terminal project. Rash also noted recently completed lighting and generator rehabilitation work and said the field supports flight instruction, a maintenance operation (PlaneWorks) and other aviation businesses.
Commissioners thanked Rash and asked no immediate action; staff said the airport will pursue federal and state grant funding for identified projects and will keep the board updated on project timelines and grant awards.
