Lisa Pearson, who said she has lived at 423 Franklin Street for 45 years, spoke during public comment to oppose a proposed sale of a public alley that she said she uses to access the west side of her backyard.
Pearson described recent incidents when a neighbor—s pickup blocked the alley during a time she needed access while her husband was in hospice care. She said she had to involve police on multiple days to have the vehicle removed and asked the council either to keep the alley open or allow her to have the opportunity to bid if the sale proceeds.
City staff told Pearson and the council that the proposal had gone through Planning & Zoning (PNZ), which recommended approval, and that city staff had set a public hearing for Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. to consider the sale. A staff member said the building official would follow up with the person who made the offer to confirm attendance at the hearing and that the city attorney would be available with options at the hearing.
Council members said the hearing scheduled for Feb. 17 will allow both sides to present their positions; staff and the city attorney will provide legal and procedural context at that time. No council decision on the alley sale was made at the meeting; the matter is scheduled for the public hearing.
