Policy committee reviews student records and recording policies, considers new policy-services vendor

At the Sept. 30 meeting the Saline Area Schools Board's policy committee chair, Lauren Gold, reported the committee had reviewed several policies and discussed a possible vendor change for policy services.
Gold said the committee examined policy 8330 (student privacy and student records) and policy 7440.01 (videography/recording) as updated by the vendor Neola. The committee also discussed enlisting Trune policy services as a change for administering district policies; Gold said this item will be discussed with the full board in a future meeting before making any vendor changes.
Gold said the committee reviewed proposed edits to board operating procedures but deferred extensive revisions because a potential vendor change could affect how policies are drafted and maintained. The committee also flagged areas for further review, including procedures for appointing a new board member, board-member ethics and board-member public communication. Gold said the committee will consult MASP guidance (as noted in committee discussion) and best practices before bringing policy revisions to the full board. The committee finished by reviewing concussion policy implementation and state concussion law; Gold said no policy motions were forwarded at this meeting.
