The Planning Commission recommended Dec. 10 that City Council approve a zoning amendment creating a new definition for "meat processing and storage facilities" and allowing those uses in the M‑1 General Industrial district by special use permit. Tyler Blanks, zoning administrator, explained the change arose from discussions with Honest Meats LLC and the longstanding, nonconforming T & E Meats facility on Charles Street, which includes a slaughterhouse operation that has been treated as a nonconforming use since annexation.
