Our Community Place reports rising usage and plans for new facility with housing

Matt Tibbles, executive director of Our Community Place (OCP), briefed the council on service trends through October: OCP reported about 890 unique individuals served so far this year and an annualized total approaching 12,000 meals at current pace. Tibbles said monthly unique visitors were hovering around 200 during recent months and that roughly half of October's visitors were people OCP had not previously seen in the first nine months of the year.
Tibbles described collaboration with shelters and the Navigation Center (Open Doors and the Salvation Army) to coordinate daytime and evening services. He said the organization is considering expanding hours and will be hiring an advancement specialist to support development work. Looking ahead, he described plans to build a new community center on a property to be announced and to include housing units as part of that project; the design goal is to preserve a "community home" feel while increasing medium-to-high-density housing on site.
Council members asked about grant collaboration with Open Doors, program hours, and whether the new funding environment (including changes at HUD) could affect supportive housing. Tibbles said national funding uncertainty may reduce some HUD funding streams and that local partners are monitoring federal grant opportunities.
