A board member supported the change, noting past situations in which the board had to convene quickly to decide travel for playoff games. No formal vote was taken at the Jan. 14 meeting because the item was presented as a first reading; the board may consider adoption at a future meeting after the required notice period for policy changes.
District staff said the proposed change is intended to streamline operational approvals for time-sensitive athletic competitions and to avoid the logistical difficulty of assembling the board on short notice.
