The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission on Jan. 15 voted unanimously to forward planning department comments and its recommendation on the proposed North Beach Historic District nomination to the State Office of Historic Preservation.
Planning staff had asked the commission to review whether the nomination met National Register criteria and to provide comment on technical matters including boundaries, the statement of significance and documentation of Italian, Chinese and LGBTQ histories. Staff advised that the nomination, prepared for the Northeast San Francisco Conservancy, identifies 631 contributing buildings and 90 noncontributing resources within the proposed district.
