Williamson County swears in Mike Lugo as county fire marshal

Williamson County Commissioners Court approved the appointment of Mike Lugo as Williamson County fire marshal and administered the oath during its Jan. 28 meeting.

County emergency‑services officials told the court Lugo brings chief‑level experience and investigative authority to the role. Bill Zito, senior director of emergency services, introduced Lugo as a former League City fire chief with “fire marshal experience and a ton of qualifications in the chief arena.” Zito said Lugo is a licensed peace officer who will strengthen the office’s arson‑investigation capacity and community relationships.

The court voted to approve the appointment (motion and second on the record) and then swore Lugo in. At the swearing, Lugo repeated the statutory oath to “faithfully execute the duties of the office of Williamson County Fire Marshal” and to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this state.” Commissioners then posed for a photograph with Lugo.

Zito and other speakers noted the county’s need to coordinate with municipal fire marshals and emergency services districts across Williamson County where local fire codes are enforced by separate jurisdictions. Officials said the position requires both fire‑safety planning and investigative work.

The court recorded the motion as passed unanimously on the record.
