Council orders unredacted weekly HR report released to council, tables formal recruitment ordinance

Lago Vista City Council on Feb. 6 instructed city staff to provide the council with the unredacted weekly human‑resources (HR) report that is generated for the city manager and then tabled a formal ordinance that would have imposed quarterly vacancy‑and‑recruitment reporting requirements.

Councilmember Benfield had proposed an ordinance requiring a quarterly report showing vacancies, recruitment status, anticipated timelines and prioritization; staff explained the city already posts current openings on its hiring board and provides a weekly HR summary to the city manager. During discussion several councilmembers asked for more transparency and an accessible summary of the city’s recruiting health—hiring successes, persistent vacancies and unusual recruitment barriers.

Councilmembers then voted initially on the draft ordinance; the item failed on a 3–3 tie. The council then voted to reconsider the matter; after reconsideration the council adopted a motion to release the unredacted HR weekly report to council immediately and to table the proposed ordinance until the Feb. 20 meeting so staff can prepare a leaner proposal that better matches council needs.

City HR staff said they will continue to post vacancies on the public hiring board and to deliver the expanded weekly information directly to the city manager; the council action adds an immediate step to distribute the unredacted weekly HR reports to all council members while staff prepares a revised, lighter ordinance proposal for council consideration at the next regular meeting.
