Coochiching County commissioners approved entering an application to be a host site for the American Connection Corps (ACC/Lead For America) member for program year 2025. The board’s approval authorizes submission of the non‑binding application only; if the county is selected it would later be asked to approve the host‑site agreement and any required site fee.
Justin Oberg, Information Services staff, and Jackie Nagel described the county’s multi‑year participation in ACC, which places service members to support broadband outreach, digital literacy and device distribution. Past placements have led to countywide digital‑skills classes and device distribution work; current partners include KTI and local grant funders that have offered $10,000 toward the upcoming host‑site fee.
Staff noted the application itself does not bind the county to pay the host‑site fee; if selected staff will return with the formal agreements and funding requests. Commissioners approved submitting the application by voice vote.
