The Moab/Grand County Travel Council Advisory Board elected Laurie as chair and Wendell as vice chair at its Feb. 11 meeting.
The vote followed nominations and discussion about continuity and workload. Several members spoke in favor of candidate experience and ability to lead the board through an active marketing season. The chair vote was called and recorded as passing by voice; the vice-chair vote passed with at least one member withholding support.
Board members debated whether the vice chair should automatically succeed to chair and emphasized the need for continuity amid staff and budget transitions. Acting chair Zach Perchevsky opened the meeting and referred members to the board bylaws, and a staff member read portions of those bylaws aloud to clarify the board’s authority on marketing and expenditure direction.
The board’s newly elected leaders will preside over an agenda heavy with marketing decisions, creative approvals and a pending amendment to the agency-of-record contract. Members said they expect the executive team to help convene subcommittees that will produce the board’s annual goals, measurement framework and strategy ahead of the busy spring and summer season.
The board discussed timelines for follow-up work, including creating a mission and KPI set for the year and preparing a packet for the county commission if name or structural changes are proposed.
