The DeKalb County Drainage Board approved a development plan for a commercial strip center at 1570 Shook Drive during its Jan. 15 meeting.
Todd Ramsey, speaking for the developer, said the project ties into regional detention south of the theater and that plan commission review granted a parking variance allowing some parking closer to a neighboring property. "This is part of our regional detention that's south of the theater," Ramsey said, and described trade-offs made on landscaping to mitigate impacts to adjacent properties.
Ramsey also told the board the developer intends to construct a road through a parcel (the former Meyer piece) that will enable a hotel to be built adjacent to the strip center once the road is complete. The surveyor’s office gave a favorable recommendation and the board approved the development plan by voice vote; no conditions beyond the surveyor's recommendation were recorded in the transcript.
The board asked staff to remain aware of related infrastructure and coordinate inspection and plan integration as nearby projects proceed.
