The Richmond County Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 8 to adopt an updated interagency memorandum of understanding with Northern Neck Soil & Water. County staff said the MOU is a renewal of an existing partnership that provides agricultural Chesapeake Bay preservation assessments, DCR conservation plans and resource-management support for select parcels. The update reflects requirements identified in a DEQ locality compliance review and maintains the county’s annual funding contribution at $15,000.
Staff stressed that Soil & Water determines the parcels selected for assessment and that the county does not direct specific parcel reviews; the MOU covers routine, random agricultural assessments consistent with state expectations. A motion to adopt the updated resolution was moved and approved by voice vote.
The county’s payment and the MOU will remain part of the regular annual budget and environmental compliance activities.
