Assembly members at a Bristol Bay Borough workshop endorsed a staged plan to review and update borough code titles, prioritize challenging items such as animal regulations, and examine assembly compensation language.
Speaker 3 presented a multi-meeting schedule that would spread a Title 2 review across several sessions and aim for a high-level completion by May. Members suggested moving more difficult items earlier and proposed splitting the animal work so fines appear in Title 1 while regulatory detail remains in Title 6. Speaker 3 also proposed a clerk-driven cadence to bring certain codes forward on a regular frequency (for example, once every five years) to avoid accumulating deferred changes as staffing and elected officials turn over.
On compensation, Speaker 4 noted the existing code reads "per day" and asked whether meeting-related pay should instead be expressly described as "per meeting." Members discussed the need to clarify what constitutes a meeting for pay purposes (start/stop rules vs. workshops) and agreed to address the language in redline edits and review it again in workshop. No ordinance was introduced or adopted during the session.
Next steps: assembly members were assigned homework to read Titles 1 and 2, highlight potential changes and email those items to staff (references were made to 'Crystal' as the staff contact in the packet), and staff were asked to prepare materials for a follow-up workshop.
