Planning Commission adopts 2026 priorities and appoints liaisons to Safe Streets and Parks & Recreation

At its Dec. 18 meeting the Hainesborough Planning Commission finalized priorities for the coming year and appointed commission liaisons to outside advisory bodies.
The commission reviewed a condensed 2026 work plan that lists hazard mitigation, zoning/code review (Title 18), housing, recreation and transportation as focal areas. Chair Patty Brown said the plan aims to narrow topics the commission will actively track and to provide point people for each theme.
Commissioner Jerry Lapp suggested adding economic development as a distinct category. The group agreed to include economic development and to pursue tasks such as advocating for marine-highway reliability and supporting commercial-fishing infrastructure.
On appointments, Commissioner 3 moved to designate Dan Schultz as the Planning Commission liaison to Safe Streets for All; the motion passed by voice vote. The commission then nominated and approved Commissioner Erica Merklin as its liaison to the borough Parks & Recreation advisory group.
The motions were procedural and aimed to improve cross-body coordination; the commission instructed staff to incorporate liaison email addresses into distribution lists so members will receive meeting notices and materials.
