Avery also outlined a legacy‑tree mapping project in North Dry Canyon, noting staff have mapped trees 18 inches and larger and could use that dataset to conserve 'legacy' trees by mapping buffer zones around canopy radii. Staff invited volunteers to help complete the survey and suggested the mapping could be used to support fuel‑break planning and habitat goals.
Committee members welcomed the ideas and staff said they will continue to bring Arbor Day planning to monthly meetings through April and that funding ideas — including grant opportunities — are welcome.
