Bristol Bay Borough canvass board counts provisional ballots and certifies October election; Robert Babiak Jr. and Michael Peters elected to assembly

The Bristol Bay Borough Assembly, acting as its canvass board, certified the October 2025 election results on Oct. 20 after counting 22 provisional and absentee ballots and ruling three returned ballots ineligible because the voters were not registered in the borough.
The clerk reported that 221 ballots were issued for the election, 193 were counted on election day, two ballots were spoiled on election day and one electronic ballot was not returned. After consulting with the Division of Elections, the clerk said 22 provisional ballots would be tallied: 18 early/absentee, two questioned, and two special/personal-representative ballots. Three ballots originating in Nome were determined not to be applicable and were excluded.
Following the provisional tally, the clerk read final totals: Robert Babiak Jr. received an additional 14 provisional votes for a reported total of 111; Pete Carusco added 10 for a reported total of 97; and Michael Peters added 12 for a reported total of 144. The assembly declared Robert Babiak Jr. and Michael Peters elected to the borough assembly. For the school board seats the clerk reported Stephanie Blashford with 111 votes (two-year term) and Joyce Anderson with 120 votes (three-year term) as the winners; Freddie Bragg and Sarah Elizabeth Lang received the other reported totals.
Mayor called for any objections to the canvass; none were raised. A motion and a second were made to certify the results; the assembly approved the certification by voice vote and the clerk was directed to prepare the official certificate for signatures.
Clerk and members also discussed logistics for signing the certificate, noting that because the assembly served as the canvass board the assembly members would sign the certification and the clerk would sign afterward. The clerk announced a special meeting with an executive session for Oct. 20 (to be confirmed) and said the newly elected assembly members are scheduled to be sworn in at the regular Nov. 3 meeting.
The canvass concluded with the motion to certify carried and the assembly adjourning at 05:55.
