Linn County board approves $555,470.37 in claims, acknowledges Mid America Energy pipeline and makes two appointments

The Linn County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 23 approved accounts payable totaling $555,470.37, passed a consent resolution acknowledging the completion of a Mid America Energy pipeline installation, and made two personnel appointments.
The board approved the minutes of its Dec. 17 meeting and then moved to claims. Director moved to approve accounts payable in the amount of $146,288.86 in checks and $409,181.51 in ACH transactions for a total of $555,470.37, with voids totaling $15.25. The motion was seconded and the board voted verbally in favor. The Director said some segregated claims will be adjusted and that the board will "desegregate claims at the next meeting." The board carried the claims vote.
The consent agenda included a resolution "acknowledging and completion of a pipeline installation for Mid America Energy." The Director described the item as "for an existing natural gas plant, not within our jurisdiction within the city of Cedar Rapids boundaries," and said the county is "watching [it] very carefully." The board approved the consent agenda on a voice vote.
During the public comment portion, the Chair extended holiday greetings and thanked colleagues and staff for support during the year, saying, "First and foremost, I wanna wish everybody a, Merry Christmas and a happy new year." A Director who spoke during public comment praised Supervisor Meishcheidt's leadership and said the board will face upcoming projects "with fairness, thoughtfulness, and putting the people of Linn County first."
On appointments, the board appointed Justin Dix as clerk to Fire District 1 for a three-year term effective Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028; the motion was seconded and passed. The board also reappointed Robert Henry to serve the remainder of an existing term as trustee to Bertram Township, with the term expiring Jan. 1, 2029; that motion was also seconded and approved.
Chair adjourned the meeting and said the board will reconvene Jan. 2, 2026.
