Village staff provided multiple operational updates to council, including a schedule for an aquifer test, community engagement on a community center study, committee assignment procedures and early preservation discussions for Alligator Mound.
Staff said a 72-hour aquifer test is set to begin on Monday, with a step test planned for the preceding day that will discharge water into Raccoon Creek; hydrogeologists will be on site to monitor impacts, and staff emphasized readiness to address any township resident well impacts. The village’s engineering and hydrogeology team (including Matt Robinette) were noted as subject-matter experts assigned to oversee monitoring.
The community center study has resumed with five focus groups completed that day; staff said turnout and dialogue have been encouraging and that findings will be summarized for council consideration. Staff will distribute a worksheet for council preferences on committee and board assignments; those preferences will be compiled and presented to the mayor and then to the council by resolution at a future meeting.
Council members also discussed Alligator Mound preservation: a small committee has formed with members of the Licking County Historical Society, tribal representatives and area stakeholders to assess deterioration and future options. Staff noted potential outreach for partner support if the committee requests council assistance. Separately, an outreach contact from Johnstown proposed a sister-city ceremonial program with a city in Ghana; staff described the effort as largely ceremonial with potential future exchanges and said the matter would be shared with council when more details are available.
